It is with great regret and gratitude that I am announcing the closing of my independent practice in clinical psychology. Effective November 20, 2007, I am no longer practicing psychology in Cheshire, Connecticut.
On December 10, 2007 I began my employment with the Asheville, NC, VA Medical Center, working in their outpatient mental health clinic with veterans affected by all the wars and conflicts of my lifetime. In my position as clinical psychologist and Military Sexual Trauma Coordinator, I provide direct care to male and female Veterans who have survived sexual assault, abuse and harassment.
In the time that I have held the position of MST Coordinator, I have learned much about the problem of sexual assault and harassment within the military. I have learned that 2-3 % of male veterans report that they were sexually harassed or assaulted while on active duty. I have learned that more than 30% of female veterans report sexual assault, and that as many as 80% report harassment. I have become profoundly invested in the work that I do, and deeply connected to the Veterans I serve. My job also involves providing training to staff on identifying and caring for survivors of abuse and assault. If you know of a Veteran who is the survivor of sexual abuse or assault, or if you want to learn more about the problem of sexual assault and harassment within the military, please contact me at lynn.marlow@va.gov.
I made the decision to relocate to Asheville because it is a place that I have loved for many years. It is a community that supports my interests and beliefs, and that supports a large and vibrant art community that inspires me and will enable me to move my art work to another level. This move has been a joyful and uplifting transition for me.
My thanks to everyone who has supported my work, all the colleagues who have taught me the art of psychotherapy, and the clients who have taught me through their experience and their honesty. I am immeasurably grateful for all the gifts that my years in Cheshire gave me.
For anyone looking for a therapist, I have compiled a list of psychotherapists in Cheshire and the surrounding area in whom I have confidence, and can refer you enthusiastically. You will find that list by following this link.
My contact page contains current contact information, and will continue to be updated after I move. Please check this page if you wish to get in touch with me.
